Son of Louis Le Blanc, Intendant of Normandy, and son-in-law of the Dean of the Parliament of Metz, Claude became in 1696 a councillor at the Parliament of Metz. In 1697, he reached the position of maitres des Requêtes and then intendant of Auvergne in 1704, of Dunkirk and Ypres in 1706. Member of the council of war in 1716, he was appointed Secretary of State for War in 1718.
